Getting Married

While you decision to get married is a personal matter, there are several company benefits to consider. This list is intended to serve as a reminder of the changes you should consider when you experience a change in marital status.

References and Resources

Consider enrolling spouse in medical, dental and vision within 30 days of marriage. You will not be able to enroll your spouse until the next annual open enrollment. Call Human Resources Benefits guide
Consider dropping coverage to become covered by your spouse’s benefit plans. You will not be able to drop coverage until the next annual open enrollment. Call Human Resources Benefits guide
Consider enrolling spouse in dependent group life insurance within 30 days of marriage. If you want to add your spouse after the 30-day period has elapsed, you may be required to provide statement of health. Call Human Resources Benefits guide
If spouse has eligible dependents, consider enrolling in medical, dental, vision and dependent group life insurance. You may need to provide statement of health if you enroll late. Some plans only allow enrollment during the annual open enrollment period. Call Human Resources Benefits guide
Consider enrolling or changing your elections in the spending accounts within 30 days of marriage. If you do not complete changes within 30 days of the change in family status, you will not be allowed to make changes until the next annual open enrollment period. Call Human Resources Benefits guide
Consider enrolling or increasing your optional life insurance coverage. Call Human Resources to order statement of health form. Your existing coverage will remain in place. However, you may always increase your coverage if you provide statement of health. Call Human Resources Benefits guide
Review your beneficiary designation for Basic Group Life, Optional Life, AD&D, Long Term Care and 401(k). You may change designation at any time by completing the forms. Your existing beneficiary elections will remain in place. Call Human Resources Benefits guide
If you are planning a honeymoon, check your available vacation and speak with your immediate supervisor as soon as possible about scheduling vacation if needed. Your supervisor may not be able to accommodate the timing of your vacation. Your supervisor
If you are moving, check to see if you are moving outside your health plan’s coverage area. You may not be covered under your health plan’s network. Call Human Resources
If you change any of your account numbers for checking or savings, notify payroll immediately if you have direct deposit. Your accounts may become delinquent and you may be expected to pay service charges. Payroll department

Update your name and/or address if there is a change. All company information will continue to reflect your former name/address. Call Human Resources
